I had the wonderful opportunity recently to go on a field trip to Maggie's Herb Farm Festival with the Advanced Plant Medicine Class of Green Lotus Studios. What a wonderful experience our group had! There was live music and several other craft and vendors present. There were rows and rows of herbs to purchase. If you were hungry you could purchase several different items for lunch. The people that run Maggie's were both friendly and knowledgeable. It was such a fun, whimsical atmosphere and the uniquely painted work cottage helped set the mood. The whimsical work cottage and gift shop... There were all kinds of herbs. I was amazed to see the number of different varieties of mint. I had no idea there were so many different ones. My favorite in the mint family was the chocolate mint herb. I can't wait to use it! There were several different basil varieties, sage, lemon balm, Turmeric, cat nip, Rue, horse tail, ginger, Stevia, Thyme, Valerian, Lavenders, Echinacea and many, many more! They have small wagons that you can put your herbs in for purchase, ours was filled to the brim! One of the many different varieties of mint. Everything was well labeled with uses and growing preferences. We were like kids in a candy store! Passion flower is one of my favorites. It is such an exquisite flower. It is used for insomnia and anxiety and can reduce high blood pressure. Yes! This is Turmeric! Who would have thought that the dirty looking spice was so beautiful. Live music created such a great atmosphere while we were shopping for our herbs! As our field trip ends, I must admit that in all the years I have used spices I have given very little thought as to what the plant looked like most of the time, until recently. I had no idea that so many of them could even be grown here in Florida. I've been on a mission though the last few years to make my yard edible. Maggie's Herb Farm is going to make that even more possible! What a great resource! I know our class will be going back to fill up another wagon! So visit Maggie's Herb Farm and purchase your favorite herbs and then sign up for a class at Green Lotus Studios so you can learn all the wonderful and amazing ways you can use your herbs! There are medicinal classes, Beginning, Intermediate and Master Herb classes as well as Nutritional Herb classes. So learn how to make medicines and how to cook with the many different herbs ...and then... you will want to go back to Maggie's and get more!
