Glowing how, you might ask? There are different kinds of glowing and no I am not talking about glow sticks. There is the proverbial glowing when someone has received good news, has fallen in love or the glow we have while using a new product we created at Green Lotus Studios. Sorry to say, I am not talking about that wonderful glow. I am talking about the kind of glow you get after toxic chemicals have invaded an area. We are often so worried about the world around us, and rightly so, that we forget about what we put on our skin. If we could magically see the glow of toxins on the many people we have contact with at work, at our parks, the mall, on our children and where ever else we may travel, I believe we would all be more diligent about what we use on our bodies. According to the Cancer Prevention Coalition some of the colors and dyes used in different cosmetics and hair dyes are carcinogenic. They also mention the additive 1; 2-Dioxane contaminates many of our shampoos, hair conditioners, creams, cleansers, lotions as well as our soaps and cleaning products. Dioxane is believed to be carcinogenic. These are just a couple of examples of toxins in products sold in stores around the country. I was sent an article recently that was written by George Blacksell. It is a wonderfully informative article called The A to Z of beauty baddies and can be found on the Ecologist web page. I will include a link below. This article covers twenty-four toxic additives that are in everyday products we buy such as lotions, shampoo, cleanser, acne treatments, diet pills, make up, aftershave and many more products. Many of the additives made the list due to their carcinogenic effects and others made the list merely due to the fact that a lot of people may be allergic to them. Some of the additives the article discusses are bronopol, parabens, resorcinol, lead, vp-Methacrylamide and several more. If you have not heard of these it might be a good idea to check out the article here http://www.theecologist.org/green_green_living/health_and_beauty/1061951/the_a_to_z_of_beauty_baddies.html . The good news is that we do not have to buy these products that are sold in our stores… We can go to our very own community center, Green Lotus Studios, here in Jacksonville and learn how to create ,if not all, of these products ourselves. There are classes on how to make lotions, toothpaste, deodorants, shampoo, soap, shaving cream, makeup, Bath bombs and even your own “diet pills”. There is something for everyone. I enjoy being in class and learning with others, while gaining hands on experience. If you aren’t able to make it to the onsite location there is a new All-Inclusive Distance Learning Beginning herbalism Course in a box that includes all your supplies, books and materials. There is a Spa Face Care & Mineral Makeup Boot Camp on August 29th and 30th. If you want a more natural GLO you don't want to miss this class! Go to http://www.greenlotusstudios.com/ and check it out. So get rid of that toxic Glow and come get a natural GLO at Green Lotus Studios!
